The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is pleased to announce an opening reception for “Rewritten Presents: The Life Story” a collaboration with Rewritten of Tioga County which will be held on Saturday, January 14th from 2-4PM. Rewritten of Tioga County addresses human trafficking issues by increasing awareness of the problem, offering preventative solutions that can end demand, creating trauma-informed communities, and providing restoration services to survivors. This exhibit will showcase thirteen different survivors’ stories as interpreted by thirteen different local artists. Ashley Wilson, the founder of Rewritten of Tioga County, will give a talk at 3PM to explain Rewritten’s goals and the origins of this exhibit. Light refreshments will be served at the reception, which is free and open to the public.

The purpose of the exhibit is to raise awareness about human trafficking and to value survivors’ voices. Artists have been asked to create their interpretation of one of 13 survivor stories from the website www.thelifestory.org Although this is a small exhibit, it will feature a wide array of artistic media, from watercolors to dance, photography, metal sculpture, spoken word, and fiber art. The artists have agreed to tackle a tough subject during human trafficking awareness month in order to shed some light on a subject that is too often kept in the dark. Visitor discretion is advised.

“Rewritten Presents: The Life Story” will be on display in the Atrium Gallery of the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center from Saturday, January 14 through Sunday, January 29. The Gmeiner is open from 12-6PM Tuesdays through Sundays and is located at 134 Main Street in Wellsboro behind the Green Free Library. Admission to the gallery is free.
